ABOUT MERIDIAN

The FAA has specific regulations that govern any construction or alteration that exceeds an imaginary surface extending outward and upward based on the following slopes:

  • 100 to 1 for a horizontal distance of 20,000 feet from the nearest point of the nearest runway.
  • 50 to 1 for a horizontal distance of 10,000 feet from the nearest point of the nearest runway.
  • 25 to 1 for a horizontal distance of 5,000 feet from the nearest point of the nearest landing and take off of each helicopter.
  • any highway, railroad, or waterway or other traverse way of mobile objects, of a height which, if adjusted upward would exceed a standard of CFR 77.9.

The FAA presumes it to be a hazard to air navigation that results in an inefficient use of airspace. 14 CFR Part 77.9 dictates the notice criteria that may require you to submit Form 7460-1/Obstruction Evaluation of Navigable Airspace at least 45 days prior to the start of construction.

Meridian Airspace Analytics can assist you in filing the 7460-1 form, tracking the status, and liaising with the FAA to expedite the process. We understand time is of the essence and with our help, you can potentially avoid incurring impactful delay costs, liquidated damages, or civil penalties as listed under the FAA for failure to comply.

Notice is required by 14 Code of Federal Regulations, part 77 pursuant to 49 U.S.C., Section 44718. Persons who knowingly and willingly violate the notice requirements of part 77 are subject to a civil penalty of $1,000 per day until the notice is received, pursuant to 49 U.S.C., Section 46301(a).
